Buckles is a full service pet business that provides customers with a variety of cuddly or exotic pets, pet supplies, and pet food in the Lafayette, West Lafayette, and surrounding areas.
Buckles Feed Depot and Pet Supply was started in 1977 by Bill Buckles in the old CSX Railroad depot at 400 North Salem Street in Lafayette Indiana. His goal was to provide a source of quality animal feed and pet foods to the Tippecanoe County area, not just Lafayette, and West Lafayette. Bill's goal of helping pets and pet owners was achieved and surpassed through hard work and countless hours in the small overcrowded depot. During the summer of 1991, Bill was joined by his son, Mike, at the same time Lafayette began its local railroad relocation. The small depot was one of the first casualties of the city's transformation. After a careful search and the desire to cling to their downtown roots, Bill and Mike purchased the old Crown Laundry at 4th and Romig, and made this large warehouse style building their new home. Soon this building became the Buckles Feed Depot and Pet Supply that you still see there today.
During the next fifteen years Buckles evolved through trial and error, and by the suggestions of our customers we now carry a complete selection of pet supplies, along with the pets as well. Our hours have expanded to meet demand, and our employees have grown from two to seven. By sticking to our original goals and by taking advantage of the new resources and suppliers available to our company, we really can say, "We feed 'em all."
